On Saturday, 22 August, residents and people holidaying on Urbanization Monte de los Almendros gathered for a summer party. The theme was Andalucia, and many people dressed accordingly. Many women and young girls wore flamenco dresses and had their hair tied back and adorned with a colorful flower. Many men had on sombrero hats and high waisted black trousers, red scarves and boots. Others wore green and white since those are the colors of the flag of Andalucia. People´s attire was definitely a topic of conversation.
Everyone thoroughly enjoyed the home made, typical Andalucian food. Many members of the urbanization kindly pitched in to make their specialty. There were 3 types of cold soaps including gazpacho, salmorejo and ajo blanco. There was ¨potatas a la pobre,¨ which are sautéed potatoes with onions and green peppers. There was a booth with women making sausages with fried eggs and garlic. At the Cumbre Villa´s booth, there were people carving jamon Ibérico and a special baked ham. They must have been good because there wasn´t any left at all. Everyone enjoyed sherry from Jerez de la Frontera, and one of the long term residents of Monte, Dr. Neur, made his famous, albeit somewhat lethal, champagne punch. New Italian residents on the urbanisation made 2 desserts using almonds since this is the urbanisation of almond trees, after all. The biscottis were absolutely delicious.
The live music was great and quite a few people had fun dancing. The party went on into the early hours of the morning, so I think it was safe to assume that a good time was had by all. It was lovely to see the 22 nationalities that live here on Monte come together to have a united community. A Large thanks goes out to all of those who helped make the party a great success and to those who came to enjoy.
