Medieval market in Salobrena

Don’t know what to do on Saturday or Sunday night? Then go to Salobrena and enjoy its open air medieval market. It takes place in the Parque de la Fuente, from 7PM to 12PM. To find it, at the first round-about with the fountain, go straight. At the next round-about, take the left exit, following the signs for the beaches (Playas). Go straight, and you will finally arrive to the Parque de la Fuente. There will be traditional crafts and food, falconry, carousel for children and a medieval bar for parents!

San Juan 2011 in Salobrena

On 24th June we celebrate San Juan Bautista with the beginning of summer, a time full of light and color. During this week, numerous celebrations as well as religious, sports and gastronomic events will be organized in Salobrena and in many other Spanish towns.

Alhambra Exhibition: “Lions, the restoration of a symbol”

The famous lions of the most emblematic Fountain of the Lions in the Alhambra come back to the Nasrid Palaces, after three years of restoration. Until 31st October 2011, you will be able to contemplate those twelve lions in the Crypt of the Palace of Charles V. The exhibition “Lions, the restoration of a symbol” includes a reading area and five videos.

Please find below the new opening hours for Salobrena Tourist Information Office:

Monday to Friday, from 09:00 to 15:00 and from 16:30 to 20:00
Saturday, Sunday and holiday, from 10:00 to 13:30

The Tourist Information Office in Salobrena is located right in the first round-about at the entrance of the town, next to the restaurant La Bodega.

Please find below the new opening hours for Salobrena Moorish castle:

Monday to Friday, from 10:00 to 14:15 and from 16:15 to 20:30
Saturday, Sunday and holiday, from 10:00 to 13:30 and from 17:00 to 20:30.

The Historic Museum will be open:

A group of sporty people and nature lovers is organizing routes through attractive places of the varied geography of our wonderful Costa Tropical. If you want to be close to nature and if you like walking, this is for you! One route is organized each month. To have an idea of the excursions month by month, please refer to our "What's on guide" section. All these routes begin at 08:00 AM and the departure point is the bus station that is near the Tourist Information Office, in Motril.

Celebrate Andalucia’s Day in Salobrena!

This Monday 28th February 2011, to celebrate Andalucia’s Day, the town of Salobrena is organizing lots of activities: flamenco and Spanish dance, flamenco music, competition of master slicers and a big paella! All these activities will take place in the PLAZA JUAN CARLOS I (the square where the town hall is) from 12 o’clock. Come & enjoy an open air Spanish fiesta! Please note that this day is a day off, so main shops and supermarkets will be closed.

Will Inflation Focus This Week Push The Pound Higher?

The Pound is set for a busy week with some expecting that this week’s focus on inflation – with the actual CPI inflation figures tomorrow and the quarterly inflation report on Wednesday – could push the Pound higher if inflation once more comes in well above target. This could provide further momentum to Sterling although much will depend on what the inflation report actually says and also how the subsequent comments from the Bank of England Governor Mervyn King are interpreted.

The decision was taken to hold the committee meetings on the first Monday of every month. If the meeting date falls on a bank holiday, then it will be held on the following Monday. Meetings wil be held in the meeting room below the Administration office, starting time please see below. All owners are welcome to attend.

Pound pulled down to 1.16 following last week’s GDP slump

The Pound is starting the week at the 1.16s against the Euro – lower than last Monday when we came off the starting blocks at 1.17 but the Pound has actually regained some ground over the weekend from lower falls to 1.154 on Friday and 1.153 last Wednesday when we saw decidedly low GDP figures knock the Pound down.
