Investment potential of Salobrena

The Autovia del Mediterraneo motorway

autovia del mediterraneo

The most important development that will increase the value of properties in Salobrena is the completion of the motorway along the east and south coast of Spain from Barcelona to Cadiz. The only section of the motorway that is yet to open is the final tram that will go from Almunecar past Salobrena. The motorway previously only went as far as Nerja, the eastern most town on the Costa del Sol. In March 2007, the first tram of the Costa Tropical section was opened and the motorway, known as the Autovia del Mediterraneo/A7, was extended through to La Herradura. In July 2009 the section from La Herradura to Almunecar opened, providing tremendous relief to the area. It is now possible to get from Salobrena to the airport of Malaga in under an hour. For those of you who need to travel frequently, this makes commuting much easier. The last tram should open in 2013. That will mean that the N340 will be used only by local traffic. The prospect of being able to drive on a motorway-class road all the way from Algeciras to Barcelona and on into France and Italy is very exciting.

The Granada motorway

In 2009 the motorway from the capital of Granada to the coast was completed. This made Madrid, the airport of Granada (which now offers a growing number of low cost international flights), the city of Granada with its breathtaking Alhambra Palace and the ski slopes of the Sierra Nevada even closer to Salobrena. It currently takes 40 minutes to reach the Alhambra and the city, 55 minutes to reach the airport and 70 minutes to the ski slopes. This makes it a viable option for people working in Granada to live on the coast to enjoy the better climate and quality of life that Salobrena has to offer. This will continue to increase the value of property for sale in Salobrena. Work is in progress to conenct the Autovia del Mediterraneo/A7 to the Granada road and to Almeria. This will place Salobrena a at a very strategic point between Malaga, Granada and Almeria and will most definitely increase property prices in Salobrena.

New marina

site of future marina in salobrena

Salobrena has approved plans to build a yachting harbour. This is very good news as the Costa Tropical is in need of additional mooring space since both the marinas in Motril and Marina del Este in La Herradura are nearing capacity. The new harbour will be located where the old sugar cane factory is, which is directly below Urbanization Monte de los Almendros in the small fishing village of La Caleta. It will add beauty to an area that has been a bit laid by the wayside.

Rental potential

Potential rental income is an important factor to bear in mind when making your purchase decision especially if you are planning on only using your home in the winter or for periodic holidays. Many of our villas for sale are currently successful holiday rentals. These villas earn significant returns that cover a good portion of the mortgage costs and ongoing expenses. We personally own 5 villas on Urb. Monte de los Almendros that we rent, so we know this business intimately. We are now offering a rental and property management service so we can handle everything for you.
